A friend asked me to make a fun cake for her for a cakewalk. This was a great idea she sent to me. Easy to make and really turned out looking like a pizza.

I know it's not cake AGAIN! But I wanted to take a minute and share with you a few things I learned this weekend. On Saturday July 24, 2010 God got an amazing angle. Matt's aunt Shirley Van Zee went to be with the Lord! I have never in my life seen a woman with so much faith and such a free spirit!
I would like to introduce you all to Shirley!

You see that smile.. that's how she always looked, always smiling, laughing and giving great big hugs! Shirley had a heart of gold :) Shirley and her husband Glen raised two of the most amazing men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, they love the Lord with all their hearts and they know their mom is safe in his arms.
If you doubt my words that she was amazing, picture over 700 people at her funeral, to rejoice in the life she had and to stand next to her three men (husband and two sons)..
We grieve the loss of this woman for selfish reasons but I will always miss the hugs, and look forward to seeing her face again.. For now we have another angle to watch over our family. I can see her sitting with her dad, laughing and reminiscing.
Shirley we love you. We will miss you dearly but we know you are safe in the arms of the Lord..
Glen, Adam, Desiree, baby Kezi and Levi, we hold you up in prayer and know that you are strong(one of the strongest families we have ever seen), and you are believers.. We LOVE YOU!!

It's not cake but.....

it's still creative!
I had some pictures on my dining room wall for about 5 years. I was ready for a change. A friend e-mailed me a link for a frame collage. My mind kept going back to it. I liked it but I had this saying picked out for a vinyl wall transfer but didn't want to spend the money on it.
After much thought and creative brainstorming. This is my final product.
I spent around $15 for the whole thing, frames included!
Not bad!
Maybe I will show you my living room wall later. After I get my picture!

For a little boys' first birthday his dad ordered him a tractor cake. I wanted to make it somewhat childish, so I added the fluffy clouds.

Of course you can't have a first birthday without giving the child their own cake. This was Kayden's. I heard he loved licking his name off like lollipops!

Happy Birthday Shaina!
My sweet little girl is 6! She is beautiful, sweet and funny! She is just like her mother, in good ways and bad. I can't believe she is 6 already!
Shaina and I love to look at cake pictures on line and we found one we both loved. After she changed the color about 5 times this was the end product, well sort of! I had nothing to do with the 22 petshop animals all over the cake, that was all her!

This was the cake as I left it! The bottom tier is half chocolate and half white with chocolate fudge filling. The top is chocolate cake, that was just for Shaina!

What you all think I am way behind the times?? Well I'm not. My niece graduates from Kindergarten tonight therefore there was no need to post some of my graduation pictures til all the cakes were done.

This is my beautiful niece. Graduating from Kindergarten!

This was for a fun girl graduating from 8th grade and going on to High School. She DID NOT want a traditional graduation cake so I did as she asked and made it fun!

This was for a high school graduate. Very traditional graduation cake, oddly enough a brother to the girl who wanted anything but traditional :)

These two cakes were for two of my cousins girls. They attended preschool together so they had a party together after graduation.

Transformers

What 16 year old girl doesn't want a fancy cake for her big day. Well Ashley sent me a picture of a cake I just wasn't sure I could do. But this is how it turned out. Better than I expected.

This is the cake at my house. Before the 16 was put on top.

This is the cake with the 16 on top. My cake boxes just aren't big enough for cool toppers to fit!

The bottom of this cake is chocolate with chocolate fudge filling. The top layer is vanilla cake with Bavarian cream filling.

This is a sweet little lady bug cake for a precious little girl turning 1!!
I had a lot of fun creating this from her party decorations.

The bottom of this cake is vanilla cake with raspberry filling. The top is chocolate cake with oreo filling. The lady bug is actually edible!

Of course the birthday girl is getting her own cake to dig into as well!

Here are two Barbie cakes.
Obviously the Barbies are just dolls shoved into cake that is make to look like her ball gown.

There is one vanilla cake and one chocolate both with cream cheese filling!

I've never met a 1 year old boy who didn't love balls of all sorts. My cousin's son Paxton is no exception to that rule! His mom ordered him a birthday cake with balls of all kinds on it! I hope I managed to make him smile :)

This is a two tier double layer cake. The bottom double layer is white cake with raspberry filling. The top double layer is chocolate cake with oreo filling.

This is Paxton's cake to dig into. Unfortunately for his mom I made it red! Ooops, sorry Lisa!

I love that after three years of doing cakes for people I am still learning new techniques and trying different things all the time. It's a great challenge and outlet for me, I love it! Thanks to everyone who has ordered cakes from me, you guys are awesome!

That said, I had someone contact me to make a barn cake for her sons 3rd Birthday. With permission to let my imagination run wild. I thought it would be so fun to make animals too!
So here is my 3-d barn with edible animals!

I also love it when I get to send the cake out the door and feel good about what it looks like! I love this cake :)

After my last post I remembered that I had done some pretty cute cookies two years ago. I am not sure if last years cookies were as cute but maybe I'll get back in the groove this year!
Anyway, this is the gift I made for Braden's teacher. With cute cookies, hot chocolate and a gift card to Barnes and Nobles!

A childhood friend, who was also a teenage friend and well I still consider a good friend turned 30 last week. Her husband plotted for weeks to throw her a surprise party. I had the honor of making her birthday cake.

She is a librarian and we do like to give her grief about it. I am sure she does a wonderful job! This is my first ever gumpaste person and as you can see I do need to perfect it yet, but I had so much fun making this, and shocked myself a little too!

Layers give such a nice dramatic affect to any cake!
Just a simple Princess themed cake like this one looks princess worthy in layers with crowns all the way around!

Even for a man, layers just add to the wow factor that I am usually searching for!

My most recent stacked cake also just gives added height by having two cakes on top of each other, which gives you the opportunity to add any flavor fillings you desire. This costumer choose raspberry and mint oreo!

Busy Cake Weekend.

This past weekend was crazy busy with cake, there was cake stuff spread throughout my kitchen for four days, which I am sure drove my husband crazy! It was fun to be able to shift to the next cake when I just could not get something the way I wanted! Thanks everyone for your orders, I hope you enjoyed them :)

Cailee wanted a Hello Kitty Mermaid. They gave me a coloring page to go by. I created an edible image of Hello Kitty on a beach theme cake.

My first royal icing crown, which was a lot of fun to create and easier than I expected.

Jacob was the only boy cake this weekend. He wanted a monster truck. I had to ask Braden for his creative help, my mind was on girly stuff! Braden said I needed dirt and a crowd.

Jenna loved the castle cake I did for Shaina but they didn't need that much cake so I made her a different version of it! I hope she liked it!

Gavyn's tool box

Gavyn turned 3 on the 12th.. After much debate about what kind of party to have we went with a builder theme. I decided to make a tool box with tools. All of which is edible.
I also made my first ever ice cream cake to go along with Gavyn tool box. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of it, but it tasted great!

A few years ago a friend asked me if I could make a last minute cake for her daughter. I was pretty excited to do it. Little did I know how much fun it would be.
